Volunteering

Volunteers of all ages and with many different interests serve as a vital part of our team. They receive ongoing education and support from a volunteer coordinator, and assist with meaningful activities that make a positive difference to the lives of the residents in our long term care homes and retirement communities.

People choose to volunteer for many reasons; improve the quality of life for members of their community, share their talents, brush up on job skills, or meet high school or college work experience requirements and of course there is the opportunity to make new friends and have some fun.

No matter what your reasons we want you to know that you are appreciated and we value every moment that you spend contributing positively to the lives of others!

Specialty Care volunteers make a contribution through roles such as:

  • Friendly visiting
  • Driving and escorting
  • Greeting new families
  • Teaching new crafts
  • Caring for pets and plants
  • Reading and writing letters
  • Recording life histories
  • Editing the newsletter
  • Assisting with computers

…and a contribution to programs such as:

  • Holiday events
  • Spiritual activities
  • Palliative care
  • Cooking and homemaking
  • Arts and crafts
  • Woodworking and hobbies
  • Music and entertainment
